16 letters by Charles Brasch, a concerned citizen, on a wide range of subjects from the ‘Art Gallery Site’, and ‘University Architecture’ to ‘Logan Park Poplars’ and ‘Vietnam. Hand-printed on Zerkall paper in 100 copies by John Holmes, these letters reveal something new on Brasch and his interest in the causes of the day. The date range is from October 1950 to March 1972. The letters were ‘discovered’ by Dr Lynn Jenner, a Wellington based academic, who has provided the introduction. The text has been illustrated by Marion Wassenaar, Lecturer in the Print Studio and Operations Assistant at Otago Polytechnic’s Dunedin School of Art.
It is fitting that the 2019 Printer in Residence Programme in the year of the 150th anniversary celebrations revolves around Brasch; he was a Dunedin man, and a well-known University of Otago man.
