Published to coincide with the Hocken’s exhibition Joe L’Estrange Painter this richly illustrated 128 page book features colour reproductions of over 80 of L’Estrange’s paintings. Joe L’ Estrange (b. 1960) is an Ōtepoti Dunedin based painter whose work includes portraits, domestic subjects such as flowers and cats, and local landscapes and urban cityscapes, especially the areas of Corstorphine, Concord and Caversham. With a foreword by Hocken Librarian Catherine Hammond and short essays by art writer Megan Dunn, Hocken Head Curator Robyn Notman and academic Dr Robin Skinner and designed by Martin Kean, the publication includes exhibition installation shots by Justin Spiers and other images of the artist and her studio.
