Reece King: Ōtepoti Dunedin 2025 is the published outcome of Reece King’s 2025 Frances Hodgkins Fellowship at the University of Otago – Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka. The artist has described the publication as a ‘studio book’, a document of 12 months’ intensive studio practice during which his ambitious painting practice found a rhythm within the environs of the University and the wider setting of Ōtepoti Dunedin. This richly illustrated publication reveals aspects of the artist’s fecund process and is accompanied by a range of written responses demonstrating various ways King’s audience can locate themselves within his world. Reece King: Ōtepoti Dunedin 2025 is a complement to King’s Frances Hodgkins Fellowship exhibition at the Hocken Gallery, The Ogee & Manaia, which runs from 14 March – 1 August 2026.
Foreword by Hocken Librarian Kelly-Ann Tahitahi with written contributions from Nick Austin, Richard Fahey, Madison Kelly, Robyn Notman, Piupiu Maya Turei and Reece King.
